Sweet and Sour Tartan

Mask falls into autumn

Whether you want head to toe or a subtle touch of English heritage, there is plenty of choice available from Vivienne Westwood, to Hunter…to one of our absolute favourites Joules…the key to any heritage look is layers, layered and yet more layering. Barbour jacket, riding boots and a cable knit is a good base for every outfit. This autumn a hip heritage look with a twist can be achieved by adding a little bit of tartan for eccentricity.

In the news, Prepster Tommy Hilfiger is opening stores like mad all over Europe and taking over distribution of his own label in China…while also setting his sights on dressing our very own Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine Middleton. On the catwalk, DKNY has given a nod to the trend with a tartan trimmed blazer…and a little closer to home Paul Smith is flying the male flag with angora sweaters and stone coloured cable knits.

Fashion titans like Chanel, Dior and YSL have opted for head to toe plaid as the patterns for their 1940s inspired ladylike suits. Classic design houses such as theirs have the flattering cut in their blood. In addition, the infamous Donegal check makes several appearances on these old school beauties. And last but certainly never least…Gucci has used accessories like the Fedora hat to bring a touch of British Heritage to their collection. There is something for everyone this season…with Barbour on the high street serving as the epitome of heritage with their jackets cropping up in every generation. Simply perfetto!!
