With the elegant prohibition-era chic of Martin Scorcese's Boardwalk Empire gripping the MASK office, and Rockstar's thrilling gangster epic LA Noir this MAY, MASK can't wait to slip into this season's flapper dresses…..
We've been inspired by the excess and luxury of this era and as we plan a Speakeasy of our own, MASK will be channelling some of the glamour and decadence of the 1920s. With Charlie Chaplin to greet guests and feathered follies adding spectacle….heavy black satin drapery and glittery balls a plenty….balloon bursts and confetti cannons….extravagance is the name of the game.
And with all this opulence and spectacle, we can't wait for the excuse to enlist some of our quirkier entertainment acts. Top Shelf Jazz are self-proclaimed 'fine purveyors of filthy swing' and wonderfully naughty performers of prohibition jazz. They are even accompanied by a tap dancing flapper who will hop onto the bar for an added touch of the risqué.
We've been getting into the Speakeasy spirit too by serving 'naughty' cocktails disguised in pretty vintage teacups, and even serving specially blended 'teapot cocktails'. And we're looking forward to using our newly found white-felted casino tables for an added touch of the out-of-bounds luxury.
So as we prepare for a Spring of parties, we feel it could be worse than to be hark back to the glamour and luxury of this opulent and and extravagant era.
